cell paradise inkt press

Cell Paradise is a triple linocut inspired by an AI-generated song created by three PhD students for the annual ERIBA Got Talent show, a creative event I organize and present, where scientists from the institute are invited to share their talents in art. The winner of the event receives a custom artwork made by me, created in response to their performance.

The winning entry received nearly 70% of the votes during the institute retreat. It was the song Cell Paradise: a catchy tribute to everyday cell culture life in the lab. Inspired by the title and familiarity of the song, this linocut is the vision i got when thinking of a cell paradise surreal scene. Pink cell culture medium pours from a recognizable laboratory bottle into a petri dish, forming paradise-like figures within the liquid itself. Along the rim of the dish, the repeated lyric “until the next cell passage”, the get-into-your-head line in the song, is carved into the linoleum.

The choice of linocut was not random for the project. As a medium that can be reproduced multiple times, it allowed each of the three creators to take home an original print of the work inspired by their song.
