from labcoat to life

This project was done in collaboration with skilled artisan Lotte Steeneken. We transformed discarded labcoats from the University of Groningen into a series of vital organs.

The process was a one by one effort: I designed the polygonic compositions, scaled them on prints and hand-painted the fabric with acrylics. Lotte isolated the triangles from the labcoats and then expertly sutured them together on the fabric using sewing thread. Both fabric and thread picked by her expertise. To complete the work, Walid Daş crafted custom wooden frames, providing a structured, solid border for the textile pieces.

The series is composed of a palette of complementary colors, creating an attractive vision. These works are currently on permanent display in the ERIBA building of the UMCG.
